Having seen Dylan's video and review of the modified torch that was sent to him by Gus at newboatgear I decided to take the plunge and so on Monday I ordered one for myself. Would it be the "tanker scarer" i was hoping for? Yes it is, and I am a very happy yachtie! The torch arrived today so tonight I have been putting it through its paces.

I like it a lot, it is nicely constructed and lightweight too. It came with an adapter so I can use "AA" instead of "C" size batteries. Had it not been for the good folk in this forum I might have spent a lot more on something not as good or at a much higher price :-)

Please note I have no commercial interest I am just a happy "customer"

He only does one type, its on his website - he buys the torches and modifies them so it doesn't have a brand that I can see

I can see loads of torches on the web site, so I don't which one "we" are talking about. There's one for £62 with 1100 lumen. There's one for £25.99, there's some head torches

It's a very confusing web site :(

he gave me one - fnaa fnaa

but it is a really good sailors torch adapted by a sailor for sailors

what can I say

buy one today

D

Bought one, waiting for it to arrive. Hopefully I can melt the eyeballs of the ****ehawks that make a mess of my boat...........

Sorry, I know website is poor.

Is there really one on there for £62?

I can't see it.

The torch Gerry bought is the orange £25.99 one.

Dylan did a video review here:

There are millions of torches out there and i have tried quite a few but i reckon the best for on the boat is this ultrafire http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UltraFire...ing_LightsLanternsTorches&hash=item43c18e8e09
It is very very bright on main beam and a good spot for picking up buoys/people a long way off. On low beam its not so bright that its too dazzling while inside the boat.Wide beam gives a brilliant flood of light. It also has sos and strobe. On top of that just add x2 18650 batteries and a charger for about £6 and your away. The batteries last ages but if need be you could use x6 AAA.For the price you can't go wrong. I have been using this one every day for about 6 months now with no problems. Make sure the 18650 batteries are protected circuit.

Ah but you missed one of the reasons why DW likes his torch. It's got a pistol grip so it does roll around all over the place ;)

Yup.

In my post (see link below) you may see two of the exact torches you mention:
http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?388582-I-bet-any-YAPP-would-not-do-this-!

or direct link to video showing the torches you may mean is here (at the end I think)

Very good they are too, that is why I have two and gave a third to my Mum.

But just like boats, no one boat or torch will do everything one wants it to. Probably why I have an awful lot of torches (and coats too for different situations)

Torches are a passion for me.
