34' sailing yacht.
I've got eight florescent lights for normal cabin lighting, bunks, heads etc
and four circular red lamps using festoon bulbs with a red lens.

I would like to change to LED lights for both normal and night sailing.
I would need either separate switches or integral as the current lights have all got integral switches.
I don't want to use the existing fittings as frankly they look old and tatty.

Has anyone had any success in changing their lighting to LED and if so what did you do and where did you get them from.

I have installed those Ikea lights in my new headlinings.

IKEA, £46 for 4 units, swivel and warm white. Throwaway the power pack. Bargain.

Also Strips of LED for galley and heads £26.

Other styles available, including funky disco lights.

+ 1. I fitted two of the Ikea lights initially, inr the fwd cabin, to see what they were like and reliability etc. Been faultless, so replaced all my light fittings on board this spring (35' starlight)

As you are going to the expense of completely changing the internal lights and units to LED types, now is the time to seriously consider that the red night vision lights to be wired directly into your masthead or pull-pit navigation lights. As they will be LED, there would be no risk of overloading your existing navigation light wiring loom.

This would have the advantage that the red cabin lights would always come on automatically whenever you go night sailing as you turn on your Nav lights.

I'm a big fan of the led strip lights. RGB remote control,12v. Brilliant if you have a recess/cupboard lip to fit them into around the saloon and choose the colour depending on night sailing, entertaining or just pure white.View attachment 30844 Loads on ebay if you search 'rgb led strips'

I replaced all the festoon bulbs with LEDs - cool white in the galley and heads, warm white in the aft cabin and a mix of cool and warm bulbs within the same fittings in the saloon. No need to replace the fittings - it's as easy to replace a LED festoon bulb and an incandescent. No experience of the spot lights though. I think I used ultraleds.co.uk, but not 100% sure.

Don't know if this will be posted, as it seems as a newbie a lot of my posts have slipped through the net.
There are many superb self adhesive strip lights, warm white, totally waterproof, flexible (look great around curves).
Many remote controlled lights.
The LED is a fantastic piece of technology.

HELLO - may I step aboard?

Woah, I am in the forum - yipee.

Am I allowed to promote any of my own kit?

Since redundancy - whole firm went bottom up - I refuse to take benefits and have set up my own (at least trying to set up) business and base it around my joy of boating.

I would love to supply anyone interested with my products at cost in order to get a customer base going. I will post my website at the end and if people say I am not allowed I will remove it. Please let me know what you think of my website if it is allowed - I am not a computer genius and used a template, but it is my storefront so I guess I should get it right.

I have been lucky enough to supply crew of the Clipper Race with some kit at rock bottom prices to get my products out there.

A user of this site recommended me to this site saying it was full of experts and nice people, so I am here, not just to sell, but hopefully become a member.

I am not greedy and will not try to make a killing. Toadfish (the user mentioned liked what I sold him) said I seemed to have the same ethos as a chap called Salty John of this forum who sells goods kit with good customer service.

That is what I am trying to do. Good kit, no greed, just a reasonable profit margin (eventually) and gain returning customers and word of mouth advertising.

Anyway, LEDs are my part of my passion - if the first poster has any questions feel free to ask away and I will do my best to answer and sell at cost.

I will move the website link to the signature bit at bottom in that case as I think I have seen others do to try to comply with everything.

I will not simply post on here to sell stuff.

I will attempt to get my avatar to become the giff that it was intended to be.

I will offer advice free of charge and publicly obviously and the offer to sell here at cost for a while stands because sales are slow and not paying the bills yet and no one is looking for middle aged engineers at the moment. Living off my savings really hurts = takes years to save and it sure flows out quickly.

Yes, the model is pretty isn't she. Not as pretty as my wife of course.

Knuckle torches have an improvement coming = easier to waterproof and the strobe effect may be useful. I keep one in my pocket and on a key ring and one was really useful the other day to look into a tiny hole and also today to poke into (almost) the dog's ear whilst I tried to remove some wax that was irritating the little mutt.

I would willing create an introduction for you = nice lady too = not a diva like some models = and she was free = a friend.

Looking at your posts, you are an expert so I will not disagree with warm white and superb, but I will attempt to get a photo or video on my website of a 3W LED that I have just sourced - long long lead time, that has a kind of yellow latex cover over the top (I want waterproof for everything of course) and I am currently testing them as running lights on my car. Everyone comments on the brightness, but I like the warm white they give off = as you say = one of the few that do = it compliments the filament type of colour in the sidelights within the headlamp cluster - it really is a kind of halogen, warm cosy light = and boy are they cheap = but long lead time from USA.

I can't change my signature so will leave the website address off until I figure it out.
