Boat has 24v G4 20 w bulbs.

I would like to change for led.

The challenge ( aside from finding any decent bulbs ) is that the maximum depth is about 26mm whereas the less sold seem to be 30mm

Anyone have a source of decent low depth G4 leds ?

I suppose that by 26mm depth you actually mean the LENGTH of the existing halogen bulb, J?
In fact, the bulb diameter in those bulbs is 9mm, afaik.
Anyway, if your problem is that the existing halogen bulb is fitted vertically, so you are limited by the internal depth of the lamp, you might consider the so called "disc" LED bulbs, of which there's plenty around (below one example) - though which are better than others remains to be seen.
Their "depth" when installed vertically is well under 26mm, anyhow.

I have a mixture.
As far as I'm concerned, even the warm LEDs aren't as nice as halogens.
So, all the ones that we use whilst away from shore power are LED and the rest halogen.
That means - reading lights in the cabins, all the bathrooms, galley and some standard lamps are LED.
Visitors are told not to use the halogens at anchor!!!
That way, we have nice warm lights while we are in port.

Ours are similar to the ones in MapisM's post above.

PS don't forget the crews quarters!!

I have the G412LA type from bedazzled ., in warm white. The warm while colour is very close to halogen but since they are 20W equivalent there is much more illumination than the 10W halogens they replace. .....the chief office like them so thats a result!
Much reduced energy consumption .
Not cheap but seem good quality.
I have lots of lights on my boat so economised by not replacing the mid cabin lights which are hardly ever used .

Jeremy,

I recently replaced the halogen's in the saloon on my Phantom, (built 2003 so I assume they could be the same as your Squadron). I also used Bedazzled and purchased the G4V-6L in warm white. I'd say they are similar to the halogen light, if anything slightly brighter.

some years ago we did lots of tests with LED bulbs and fixtures,

for the bulbs we choose products from
https://www.dixplay.it/index.php
collors are good,
they have many different models and sizes,
also twin collor models White & Blue and white & red
switch them on they are white, press off on one more time they are Blue (or red)

we use Blue / cold white for the deck courtesy lights,
and Blue / warm white in the cabins for the "under bed" lights
and simple warm white for all deck lights, in these nice Original Canados fixtures

but the major part of inside lights we replaced with completely new fixtures from Quick marine lights,
collors from most models are really good ! (I was/am very critical about that !)
we used models Kay, Yoko and Chiara,

we still buy these lights regularly for our buisiness (building OB Vans)

there are a few models that were no good collor (old fashion design at that time)
that was TED and Nikita iirc

in our boat there are about 200 light points, all led.

For the avoidance of doubt, the disks are available with back pins as per Mike's photos above, and also side pins. Choose depending on direction that the old G4 bullet shaped bulb fits within the fitting.

The ones Peter imports are excellent. Much better than the online bedazzled and other stuff that has lower cri. I would go for 3200k inside, and definitely not 2700 warm white, but each to own. Anyone who says halogen is nicer than led must be using low cri bulbs. High cri led light is excellent.
Sq58 standard fit lights 2004 are cantalupi Dallas, btw.

OK - I will have to try some sometime.

These would probably work, but then the silver reflector in the lamp would be obscured. I dont know if this matters or not given the different shape etc of the LED cluster - so the illumination effect maybe the same.

Would guess that using the mirror however gives a more focused light.

I'm a bit confused JFM.

Looking at Pete's price list his are either 2700k or 4000k - I can't see the 3200k. Which bulbs did you order?

Price list here http://www.smartmarine.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/NauticLED-Price-List-2017.pdf

I bought the 4000k but for deck/exterior use. My exterior stuff is 4000k, and interior is all cantalupi custom ordered 3000k. Nowadays with wider availability I would go slightly colder than 3000, say to 3200 or 3400, but 3000 is ok. In my book the thing to avoid is 2700 warm light because it is too amber, but each to their own on this of course

Ah ok.
I cant find direct replacements that offer the high >90 CRI that petes do in 3000 or 3200k. Pete's are 2700K - even with the high CRI would you still avoid these (sorry pete)?

That's OK.

Incidentally I am gradually changing our standard lamps at home from halogen to 3000k lights. They're reasonable spec Philips ones (can't remember the CRI) and I find that even at 3000k the light is far less yellow than the ones I'm replacing. But we're going for a more contemporary look at home than perhaps would be appropriate on a 10-20yo boat. So in your case Jez, I'd order a dozen or so 2700k ones and see how you get on with them. You may find the 2700k LED light is still way nicer and a bit less yellow than halogens.
