My incandescent Bi-Lantern is goosed (crazed lens and corroded bayonet fitting) and I fancy changing it out for an LED unit. I remember a PBO article not so long go which tested various LED navigation lamps for effectiveness but I cant find the article. So, what is the most effective LED Bi Lantern for navigation lights? I assume they can be supplied in 24V versions as well.

I would add that the light has to be compliant with the range for vessels between 12 to 50 m i.e. 2 nm range

Thanks,

So long as it doesn't begin with N and end in A you should be OK.

As a purchaser of whole page adverts they come in for some stick. Thanks though.

The PBO article showed the sectors projected by each lamp and the best one produced a very solid and defined pair of arcs with good colour intensity. I have a pile of mags at work and knowing my luck that will be the pile with the article in it.

IIRC Lopolight came out as the best, but also the most expensive. I bought one around six years ago but found last year that it no longer worked. Several other users have reported similar problems. Although mine was only marginally within the five year guarantee period I contacted the UK supplier, who referred me to their website, where there is a claims form. i filled this in and a replacement was sent to me within days.

There have been some design changes, which presumably will allow the new one to live up to the original claims. If so it is a great product, with first class support from the manufacturer.
