After 2 1/2 years of Thames boating I am moving my boat to the solent. Whilst I loved my time on the Thames turning left or right out of the marina I felt it was time for a change.
I will miss being moored up and waking up to the morning mist with a lovely view of a mirror smooth river and all our the chats with fellow boaters at locks.
I wont miss the rude and ignorant toff boaters, rowers and the loud and inexperienced hire boaters.

I have completed my VHF course and will be doing the PB2 training and more. There seems a lot to learn in coastal boating so time will tell if its my type of boating.
The boat will be at Ocean Village by the bank holiday but I am not sure if I have the confidence in taking her out without any coastal knowledge. Unless someone was happy to give me a quick guided trip out.

Put this in the mobo forum there are a good few folk in OV and I am sure one will help you out before your course.

Have fun on the coast.

Look to do your Day Skipper as well especially the theory, lots of tides and sandbanks down there! Plus I found it really enjoyable as well.

Grass...green etc....

What about the rude and ignorant Gin Palace owners at the Yacht Club who think they own the place...or the raggies who seem to think THEY own the place.....and the loud & inexperienced hire boaters but on busier, more dangerous waterways?

You'll be back....mark my words :o

Yep, best of luck, i feel there is little practical difference in turning 'left or right' at minimal cost, versus 'heading out to sea' at maximus cost, but at least it's different!

Yes I may well be back but at least I will have experienced a different type of boating. I'de popped up to the marina Sunday to load the boat ready for Henley Rewind next weekend and it did feel a little strange/sad that this will be our last river trip out for a while.
One objective of going coastal is that if I move up to a larger boat I want to be sure of which type of boat I want for where I most enjoyed boating.

Sulley, I,m doing a course in few weeks time. There seems a lot to learn but then thats all part of safe boating. Aren't you tempted to leave your boat coastal?
