how many boats came out, cleared the Red By & proceeded out to round the safe water mark as well.

Depends a bit where you are going and the wind direction also? We found it very shallow pretty close to the red buoy when we came out last Thursday morning at 09-30. (2m depth, LW was 0706 0.45m) I certainly carried on a fair distance towards the Haven buoy to be sure I was safely in deep water before heading South. If going North one might want even more sea room.
Our surprise was that the depth having decreased as expected after the green buoy and then was increasing rapidly (making us think we were over the bar) it then shallowed again as we got close to the red buoy.

I've been in and out several times this season and the shallowest bit seems to be adjacent to Oxley. AND the lump just inside North Weir point. Although by sticking close to the east shore (the Ness side) on the way out there was plenty of water plus a useful counter-eddy that propelled me past a boat 400m ahead, as though he was standing still--which I suppose he was with 4kts against him as opposed to the 0.2kts under me.
