I am a french sailor from Brittany. My boat is wintering on valentia island ( at leat I hope so!!).
I have planned to sail next spring: NW Ireland and Scotland .
In fact, I wil sail from time to time for a couple of weeks (weather permitting) but will sometimes be back home (work and family obligations).
So, I am looking for places to leave my boat unattended for about 1 or 2 weeks.
She is 9 meters (30 feet):I can lift the keel and take the ground very easily. I have seen a lot of places where I can dry the boat along a quay: Kinvara, Clifden, Westport etc.

My question is about the "legal" aspect:
can I leave a boat for 2weeks (in Britanny it is quite impossible now)?
Do I have to ask permission and to who:harbour master? Or after a pint to local fishermen?

I have seen there is a lot of local sailing clubs in Galway, Clifden, Wesport. Does anybody have their e-mail adress (I have phone numbers but phone is not very easy with my bloody french accent) .

Thanks for your answers

Legally there would be no problem, the larger harbours , certainly the commercial ones like Rossaveal, Kilronan, possibly Clifden , would have harbour masters or someone appointed by the Council to run things. Smaller places like Kinvara woulden't be a problem and in a place like that as you say, ask the local fishermen or sailors for advice on a safe berth out of the way of regular users.

Kinvara, Roundstone,Clifden,Cleggan, Westport or the sailing club there at Rosmoney would probably give you a mooring.

I cannot help you with the West Coast of Ireland, but I regularly leave my boat, (an 11m ketch) anchored in places off the West Coast of Scotland, for periods of up to four weeks. There are no legal impediments, but you have to have good gear, and use it intelligently.
