I did ask in another group a few months back and got conflicting answers so thought I would try here. Next week we are leaving Croatia and sailing directly to Greece (so Schengen to Schengen, staying out of Montenegro and Albanian waters). We are UK flagged EU VAT paid if relevant. Do we need to do any procedures (such as check out) in Dubrovnik before leaving or do we just leave? (We are hoping we just leave). Thanks in advance all.

It is advisable to inform the Croatian port authorities that you are leaving, and officially check out - when you enter Greece you need to stop at a Port of Entry in Greece anyway (e.g., Corfu, Lefkas) to present passports, ship registration, and obtain a Transit Log/DEKPA from the Port Police. You can avoid any customs declaration, but that will probably run smoother if you have the departure papers from Croatia, otherwise they might think you have come from the U.K. and make you do a Temporary Admission, which will make it then difficult to prove EU VAT paid status if you need to sell.

Either way make sure you have concrete proof of VAT paid in the EU.

If you are all U.K. citizens then if you check out you can stop the Schengen clock, and Montenegro is getting quite visitor friendly so may be worth a visit.
