We are looking to leave our 29 foot Sadler in or near La Rochelle for most of July and August, and later for the winter 2007-8. We have heard Ars en Re and la Roche Bernard are good value. Comments? (Roche B too much of a shlep for the summer break.)

Hi
La Roche Bernard had a 3 year waiting list for a pontoon berth last year, but might have a buoy free. We left our boat at Arzal, which is a large marina immediately upriver of the Villaine barrage. Good hoist and 24hr security in locked compound. Not bad price either - around 800 euro for winter if i remember rightly.
Friends left theirs in Redon (top of Villaine river & noisy & sometimes unwanted borders), La Rochelle (inner harbour not Minimes) - noisy but fun, Minimes (long way out of town but quiet & safe), St Martin on Isle de Re (really nice, but dead in winter), and Rochefort (apparently quite good but in middle of town so a bit noisy.

Mutli-Nautique about 6 miles upriver from RB is very good. Also there are some good Gites nearby where you can stay when recommissioning. Rochefort also good. The hotel by the river has a cracking restaurant
