We'll be "working" our way up the Croatian coast and wanting to come back to the UK for about a month in midsummer. Which side of the water is likely to be least expensive? We do have friends we'd like to visit on the Italian side so it would be good if that fitted, but cost and convenience to a cheap airlines airport are the key issues.
Any comments welcome.

If you can get as far north then Monfalcone, a few nm west of Trieste, is recommended by some here who have used Hannibal Marina - but there are others there. There is also a nearby airport used by Ryanair with flights to the UK.

Croatian marinas are expensive, especially when you intend to be there and when so many Italians flood across in their traditional holiday time - August. NE Italian marinas are much more available and less expensive than Croatian ones, which had, to date, waiting lists. It may be different this year as they join the EU on 1st July, 2013 and there just could have been an exodus of non-VAT paid yachts - we must wait and see.

hi, we left a 32 rival a couple of years ago at the marina in ISOLA good yard. good service airport near by.

HI.
Depends how far north you manage to get. if you manage as far as the above mentioned places then great. somewhere cheap further south is Cervia, Rimini airport is close by. Even further south is Ancona, a big marina again with airport close by.

on your way don't forget to pop in to Isole Trimiti a truly spectacularly beautiful place just off the coast of Vieste Puglia.

Thanks for those answers - helpful. We're starting from Ragusa and will be going slowly, via Siracusa, Etna, and then slowly up Adriatic coast too. So expect to be only about half way up by late July. Ancona a possibility if Italy is indeed cheaper. Does anyone know Porto san Giorgio?
