Following the recent refit of Nutmeg I found that I had a lot of new skills to learn, leathering gaff jaws and sprit traveller amongst them. Well, my friendly yard manager commended my work and kindly said he had paid for work not as good. This led me to thinking I might be able to supplement my pension by offering my services carrying out leathering jobs on local trad boats. I have made a few other items, tool rolls and
IPhone cases that look rather neat.

I don't expect to make a fortune, just contribute to the boat fund really.

Any thoughts or words of advise very welcome.

a number of people already so it, but in your area ? It sounds a good way to supplement income. I suppose that modern boats could be persuaded to have leather wheel bindings, etc.

Looking at a few sites, there are all sorts of little gifts which can be made in leather, which have a boaty connection. Mug holders, knife and spike holsters, bottle screw covers, spreader ends, etc.

I like the idea; best of luck.

Would be handy for me. I have a plan to make a fitting to hold my tiller straight in position on her mooring (the tiller lines always stretch) and I'll want the jaws leathered to protect the varnish. I won't do it until I lay up but it will happen this winter. Not the biggest job but something I could not do very well. I'll be in touch.

Yes. Pretty similar to leathering a spinny pole. I happen to have some really nice 2.5mm veg tanned leather that would be perfect.
Could I interest sir in a dollop of genuine hand made tallow complete with the odd bit of meat in it, perfect for preserving the leather and attracting every dog within 100 yards?

I have set up an email account at Blackwaterleather@gmail.com

Website on its way too, thanks to software developer eldest son.
