Learning weather

I would like to learn a little more about weather and weather forcasting. In the future I will be doing my yachtmaster but I would like to ensure that my basic understanding is correct first. Can anyone recommend a book which starts at basics and gives a good grounding to start from?

books by alan watts should give you a good base to start with....
i ended up finding a meteorology course at an evening class, an interesting 6 week course..

Does any body know what the RYA book is like. It ought to be just the thing for RYA exams.
