hi, i have been a motor boater for a few years and recently got a gp14 which im restoring. I wonder would anybody know of a course or people who who teach my family and myself to sail, im hoping for some where warm as we could do it during my famlies holidays. hope this makes scence .

we once went on a sunsail holiday in the aegean at a "centre" rather than on a yacht. there were dozens of dinghies, yachts for day sailing, waterskiing windsurfing - everything you could want, and you could also buy training/. and excellent holiday.

if you are happy with your nav etc as I would expect coming from a mobo, then the basic skills of sailing are easily learned and in my view best done in a dinghy. if you can sail a dinghy, a big ponderous yacht is easier.

Neilson also run these activity holidays. I was very impressed with their operation and staff at porto Heli in greece last year. big choice of dinghies and classes to join in with. plus windsurfing. no compulsion to sign up for a number of lessons, you join in where you want to. So plenty of options for different members of the famly taking it at their own pace.
No connection, just very impressed.

My wife and I did this. We had a great time with RUSailing at Lagos. We had the boat to ourselves with Rob and Jules who taught us ( with great determination and sense of humour).

Lagos, is on the Algarve and has the benefit of giving a wide variety of wind conditions on the same day which means that the chances are that you'll see a lot in your week or so of holiday. The other thing to not is that the beach is only a short walk from the marina! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Second vote for Neilson. They call the break 'Beach Plus', so in addition to water sports they alo have tennis, mountain biking, yoga and loads of other activities.

We did four years in a row at the Retreat in Sivota, Greece, about one hour North of Preveza. Great facility, especially if you can avoid peak times such as school holidays. The accommodation is good, plenty of dinghies/classes and the food is fantastic, both in terms of quality and quantity.

No connection, etc.
