Leaky oil extraction pump - can it be fixed?

Hi there,

I have a plunger type oil extraction pump bolted to the side of my Ford 2722 engine, and it is leaking oil around the plunger handle, either when operated or especially when the the engine is running, and it is making a mess of my engine bilge.

Can these pumps be rebuilt with a new seal? Or are they a standard item that you replace from ASAP or similar? My plan B is to remove it and cap off the pipe from the engine, as I use an oil vacuum pump down the dip stick to,change the oil.

Just replace the O-ring seal and everything will be fine.

Leaking when running is a sign of greater crank case pressures, unless the plunger washer is very worn.

I believe newer engines dont have sump pumps as the sump content can be lost in high blow by conditions. (or it saves money and is a good excuse )

Ok thanks I will dissemble and see if the washer can be changed. The crank case pressures may be a little high (it is an older engine) but hopefully a new washer will keep most of the oil where it should be...
