Leaking window

I have a Sadler 29 finishing it's first season under my ownership, so a winter of work is ahead. I have 3 leaking windows in the main cabin can anyone give me some advice?
Am I best to do the whole job and remove them re seal and start again, or should I try to put a sealant around the window frame to stop the leak.

Best to remove them for permanent job, otherwise scrape out what you can of old gunge and replace with sikaflex or Dow corning. I have tried Captain Tolleys creeping crack cure and the Comma equivalent. Both make a nasty mess and have failed miserably!

Have a look at Mike Lucas web site- has a Sadler discussion board.
I have had success buy removing old sealant- make up a tool from grinding down a screwdriver - and then using Sikaflex.

Cap'n Tolley's works for me on my Sadler 32. Agree Comma makes a mess. Either is a temporary expedient - and I've yet to work out how to make them run uphill to seal the top of the windows.

Do join the Sadler Association - there are good articles written by owners in the regular newsletter on exactly your problem - and others you may encounter. Back issues of technical articles are available (I think for a small fee).

Cap'n Tolley's worked for me, too, even squirted upwards (but its the lower ledge where the leaks are worst.

Of course its only a temporary solution. But it was effective for nearly three years.

If you want a "permanent" fix, you'll have to take them out and do it properly, but it's not rocket science, just a fiddly two-person job.
