Cause my navman speed wasn't working well, I renewed the transducer. Just swopped them. Now the instrument is allright, but the transducer is leaking. Should I have used sikaflex or something like that?
yep, sikaflex - just installed two new Navman transducers with lots of sikaflex, and its drizabone.
Did you use any bedding compound? It definitely needs some compound - sikaflex recommended in the navman blurb.
best of luck.
Is it a retractable thru hull fitting? Ie you've just swapped the actual transducer rather than the fitting it attaches to? If so it sounds like there is a rubber seal that would need replacing ...
If not then - I guess sikaflex is your answer ...
If it is a retractable fitting did you put some silicone grease on the o-rings before installation? - essential for a leak free, easily removable transducer. Don not use sikaflex on the o-rings if you ever want to remove the retractable bit in the future (and you will because it always cruds up with something during the season)
It's the retractable type and I didn't do anything on the fixed part. But there are no o-rings to be seen - not in the old one and not in the package when I bought the new transducer.
Most transducers have an o-ring fitted just above the impellor part so that it seals in the tube.
It would seem strange if there is no o-ring or seal anywhere if its retractable ....
its the manual for navman hull transducers ... look on page 7 point 8 ... there should be an o-ring !! and they say to grease it ... I suggest you might like to check .... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
