Leaking single lever mixer tap, Beneteau

The single lever mixer sink tap in the heads of my Beneteau is leaking. It seems to be from the hot water side in that if the lever is fully to the right, cold, there's no drip.

I've read that single lever mixer taps are likely to use ceramic discs to create the seal rather than rubber washers found in "normal" taps. I've also read that when leaking, a replacement cartridge is required. That's about the sum total of my knowledge so far......I haven't removed the lever mechanism yet. Here's a picture.

The tap is 18mm. I expect that I'll need a mortgage if I buy from the Beneteau network....has anyone any experience of this issue and found a way to repair it or found an alternative source for a replacement?

On the same tap, when venting the air after winter hard standing, one "surge" blew-out the aerator. I bought one that looked similar from ebay but it's very slightly different and there's no room for the o-ring seal so it weeps around the thread. Any ideas to source one of these......picture

you can get all the parts from B & Q or any plumbers merchants cheaply, you tube have lots of videos showing how to do it

I think that's a bit optimistic. There are squillions of different designs of ceramic cartridges, and the chances of getting the right one from B&Q are minimal. Ideally, the OP needs to identify the make of the tap.

My Beneteau oceanis 311 mixer tap started leaking from under the head when the tap was turned on (it's slightly different than your tap) I stripped it down but everything looked okay I located a new cartridge on the internet via a code stamped on to the old one (PAINI -NF- 03/04/2000) but it was quite expensive I purchased a completely new tap on Ebay made by Bristan it has rubber washers and separate knobs for hot and cold. I have not fitted it yet but it is an easy job.

Yacht builders don't make taps .It's just a tap - a bit like my kitchen tap I fixed this morning.
Try this: Unscrew the lever. Under it is probably a grub screw that will need an allen key. Pull of the top. The cartridge will undo with a spanner. Take the cartridge to a plumbers merchant and they should be able to match it.

Many thanks for the helpful replies. YouTube is an incredible source of “how to do it” information, an obvious but overlooked tip.

18mm is quite small and I can’t find a replacement cartridge via Google. This size isn’t listed at any Plumber Merchant, chain or independent. There’s a website called “tapmagician” and he claims to be able to solve any problem! I’ve contacted him, let’s see how he responds. I’ll also try a caravan chandler (or what ever they call their Aladdin Cave equivalent).

I expect it’s of French manufacture, as is the boat. Googling French tap manufacturers isn’t very satisfying. Hopefully, as per Pete, I’ll find a part number on it when I remove it during my next visit to the boat.

My Kitchen tap was leaking so I went I went to Bunnings to get a replacement. I looked at the range and picked the one that was about half the price of the others. The salesman said "you get what you pay for". But I knew better didn't I?

I had to replace it but this time I spent about $A75 and it is fine. I don't know why you need to replace it with a Beneteau tap?

Definitely so.

I identified mine and managed to find the identical one just from the photos in the Marine Taps section of Penguin Engineering http://www.penguineng.com/tapsshowers.html

I contacted Penguin and they have been able to supply all the parts I needed to sort out our 3 sink and 2 shower taps.

I was at my boat on Saturday and Sunday but I can't face Bank Holiday traffic on the A55 so came home early. Given the recent loss of Holyhead marina, I'm about to sail north to a Clyde marina. Boat maintenance will not be as straight forward in future. No longer a couple of hours to north Wales.

The offending tap appears to need a 2.5mm Allen key, certainly 2mm is too small and 3mm too large. I have one at home via my model aeroplane hobby but not on the boat. In future, I'm going to have to duplicate more tools for the boat. I just love buying tools, just like buying multimeters and torches......you can't have too many

Foxes are better, the lady there is really switched on, she also does orders tacked on to their run of the mill ones so you dont pay the expensive Beneteau delivery charges. Having said that. I found a new top lever for mine on ebay, they are bog std taps.

The tap sprung its leak just before I left yesterday and I didn’t have an Allen key to investigate further. Don’t know how or where from but I think there’s some debris in the hot water line. I’ll probably go again to Caernarfon mid week. I’ll give Foxes a call tomorrow.

Departure from Caernarfon is next Wednesday week, weather permitting. I didn’t think you two would be available at this time of year or I’d have asked if you fancied the trip. Another HH berth-holder has kindly volunteered to hold my hand.
