Hi I am new to this forum and seek help with a leaking petrol tank on my 26' Cruisers International. The tank is aluminium and very large at 120 gallons and has a slight leak that means the bilges get filled with petrol - and yes I do realise how dangerous that is and that the vapour alone could explode like a small nuclear bomb!!

At the moment the boat is out of the water (Essex) with the tank and bilges completely drained. Removing and replacing the tank is virtually impossible due to its size as it would mean cutting open the deck etc.

My options seems to be either a sealer of some kind but all of these for car tanks require a lot of "sloshing" which obviously I cannot do or else the insertion of some kind of liner. I am havinf absolutely no joy in finding anyone who can supply such things or even anyone who can professionally quote me to come and do the job properly - (whatever properly may be!)

I remember hearing a similar problem recently from a previous post, with a lower bilge mounted alloy tank.

Is the tank not mounted just forward of the engine/s? Engine/s out maybe, and back through the hatch?

How old is the boat and installation?

Just make sure before you get that serious, it isn't something as simple as a perished or fractured fuel lines (get hold of the lines and give them a good bend, looking for cracks), or a sealant/compound failure around the sender unit in the top of the tank.
Are all fuel lines, both into and out of the tank double clamped and opposing each other. If they feel hard, change them, using proper fuel hose.
