Having just purchased a new Honda 2.3 four stroke, I have noticed a small amount of engine oil leaking from it when stored.

It is stored correctly on it's side with the throttle upppermost.

Has anyone else any similar experiences, where is the oil from and can it be stopped? It has only done 5 hours service.

Check the inspection window on the side of the engine, if this is down then it may be coming out of the drainage bolt under the inspection window, it may of worked itself loose over the cause of time, if that is ok, open up the engine cover & check the oil filler cap is secure.
If oil level in inspection window is fine then check your gear oil down by the prop, the gear oil level bolt at the top & the gear oil drain bolt at the bottom make sure these are secure.
You said the engine is new, if you still have problems contact Honda because they give you a 5 year warrenty on new honda outboards if you get them serviced or 2 years if you do not.
try to store the engine standing up if you can, it is better for them so i'm told.
regards
Dave.
ps. I also have the new honda 2.3. got your self a good outboard.

some have wheels for lawn cutting imho the best place for em.
i bought one new & that was a real mistake.
noisy, starter cord snatches if on wrong stroke, stupid throttle / clutch.

Re: P.X it

And I've got your honda 2.3 ... and apart from draining the oil into the cylinder head last season (oops!) we're happy with it ... but then I do store it upright as much as possible....

Mine leaks too.Bought it two years ago and used it for about 2 hours....then back in the summer used it to cross a river and it seized after about a minute.it was stored upright but when i glanced at the oil glass it appeared to be about half.Spoke to honda and they said not worth fixing.Stripped it myself lubricated all the bits and its perfect now.still dont know where the oil was leaking from!
