Noticed last Sunday a smell of gas in my gas locker so switched off and would sort out later, so went down today to sort it. Full Calor Butane 4.5kg. Took new gas hose, gas locating aerosol etc. We found the problem fairly quickly - the valve on the cylinder was leaking! Removed the cylinder, screwed on the cap and tap turned on and when wriggled you could hear the gas leaking and you could smell it. Took to my local dealer who I'd bought it who agreed it was faulty and would exchange it BUT NONE available... he has been ordering all the various sizes for weeks and only the largest Propane bottles get delivered and no idea when any will get delivered. Anyway, he kept the cylinder and promised to call me when he gets any. I knew there was a problem some time ago but assumed it was sorted., but obviously not.

There was a recall on these for this reason, they shouldn't have given it to you in the first place.

4.5kg Butane Gas bottle recall here are the details if you'd like to check. I was emailed in October 2021 so there really is no excuse for these to still be getting handed out. That said, given the total shambles that is Calor right now I imagine a lot of people would be happy with a leaky bottle if it actually had gas in it!

Update - I found the original recall on my tablet which included a form for telling Calor and they would reply within 2 hours - ha ha I thought - BUT 20 minutes later they phoned me! They have found a dealer in Suffok who had five 4.5kg cylinders - I immediately rang them and reserved two for collection on Monday morning when I detour for collection. I just have to get the leaky cylinder from my local supplier...

Oh so they can find stock when they need to. Maybe my cylinder will develop a leak when I need a refil…
