I have a slight leak of diesel from around the fuel cock. Plan is to drain the tank and reseat the fuel cock. Any expert rcommendations on how to make sure it works? If it persists, any recommendations on a fix (external sealant)???

If the leak is from around the spindle then replacement is the only remedy as under situations of the fuel level being below the cock air could be sucked into the fuel line. If it is around the compression fittings on each side of the cock then a sealant MAY give a temporary repair but you have to find out how the leak has occured. Is there a damaged or corroded olive or olive seating due to dissimilar metals for example?

Personally, I would replace the fuel cock in any circumstance of leakage other than a possible working loose of the compression nuts. Check that the pipes are in good order though.

It is interesting that, despite the disadvantage when replacing filters etc., some boat builders have dispensed with any sort of fuel cock altogether due to leakage problems.
