My recently acquired mobo has shown a leak that it seems is caused by the hardened glass inside the hatch frame not being bedded down properly. In fact, it lifts slightly at one corner. Local advice is 1, to bodge it with sealant, 2 to try and lift the glass and rebed( with a danger of damage to glass) or 3, to fit new top hatch with appropriate costs. The supplying dealer is being less than helpful with advice, after all he has sold the boat, and I am waiting for Swedish builders to advise. Any views on best course of action? The boat is less than two years old.

As it is new I would demand a new hatch is fitted.

However

By lifting the glass slowly away from the hatch frame starting at the corner that is already lifting, removing all the old seal with a Stanley scraper and then using a silicone sealant will be a permanent repair, the double sided sticky foam is also available from good boat shops.

Silicone is very strong and long lasting.

The problems can be caused when the hatch seal sticks over winter due to lack of use.
Before winter lay up using a silicone shoe shine pad around the hatch seal will stop the winter layup problems.

Many thanks. Exactly the info I was looking for. In the final analysis, I could fit a permanent cover as also suggested.

errm perment cover on - but it will be very dark in the bedroom/room with the hatch. Anyway its to be avoided hlb being woken up by in flowing water, hlb off to sleep somewhere else, with the lights left on. I get up to switch them off, slip on the steps and the dog then bites my nose. Thats to be avoided.
