Can anyone offer advice re my echo sounder problem?

I have a Nasa echo sounder and the transducer sits in an oil filled tube. Problem is I clouted it while putting the inflatable away and now it leaks. It is hard to fix as the area is covered in oil. Can I fill the tube with epoxy and sit the transducer in that, thus bonding it in or will this not work?

Any suggestions would be welcome.

It's probably easier to bond in a new tube than to try to repair a damaged one. Either buy a pukka kit from NASA or use a bit of 38mm plastic plumbing waste pipe.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. The tube is fine. It is just coming away from the hull. This would sound like just a case of epoxying it back down but the area has become impregnated with oil over the years....I'm after an easier fix.

I had a very similar problem I tried refixing it with epoxy but it still leaked I eventually repaired using ultra sound gel instead of oil the kind they rub on pregnant womens bellys I don't know if you will find any in the chandlers though, its thicker than oil so does not run out of the tube, it's still working fine after 6 months. I don't know of any other alternatives

put the transducer in a bag of water and try other areas on the bottom of the boat when you get a good return echo from a clean area refix the tube or epoxy the transducer itself to the hull.
