leaking deck

hi there
My deck caulking has cracked in the Croatian sunshine.
Unfortuantely the covers were removed and not replaced.

I don't want to completely recaulk the deck just yet. Is there
a very thin elastic black gunge I can squeeze in between the
cracked caulking and the teak? These cracks are pretty thin
and normal filler or caulking will be too thick.

Cheers

You could try "capn tolleys creeping crack cure" its white to begin with, then drys clear. It's brilliant stuff! Are your decks actually leaking? Mine have also cracked a little between the caulking and the planks, but not all the way down. I would also get the hose on the decks, and keep them wet for days/weeks, with salt water preferably, to allow the planks to expand. Old carpet helps with this, leave it on deck and soaking.

I have a deck which has a lot of shrinkage cracks; that's just the nature of Celery Top Pine, which means that it's not a terrific decking timber. I have had success in preventing deck leaks by running beeswax into the cracks. I took a thin shaving of beeswax, poked it vertically into the crack and then melted it with a soldering iron. The melted wax runs all over the place if the shaving is too large or if you try to use a heat gun, which blows the wax every where except where you want it. The great advantage of the wax is that it will give with movements in the deck, which many other compounds will not do. A hot day will soften it again so that it adjusts to any new influences.
Peter.

I agree. Capn tolleys creeping crack cure is excellent stuff for hairline cracks and I've used it to good effect often.

I used it to seal a leaking keel bolt, it might sound daft but it got the boat 150 miles with out problems so it has to be good.

Cheers
