Any ideas about solving leaky stanchions without removing them? What about Capt Tolleys Creeping Crack solution?

I agree, for a permanent solution you will have to remove them clean up everything and put new sealant around the holes. Any other solution will start to leak again and isn't nice to look at.

Out! Out! Damned Spot!

The only way you are ever going to stop leaks in a boat is to take it out and do it properly.

Slacken off the safety rails/wire until you can lift the staunchion off the deck.

Clean/scrape both the deck AND the underside of the staunchion plate AND the bolt holes AND the underside of the deck.

Sikaflex 291/292 (not DC) the bolt holes and the staunchion plate.

Refit and tighten all - ain't no never not no other way - and that includes hatches and skylights.

Well-deserved Whisky and feet up

One last thought about Sikaflex. If you apply plenty, then part tighten and leave overnight the Sikaflex hardens to form a superb gasket about 1mm thick. On day 2 you then susequently compress the gasket by finally tightening the bolts. This slow but sure method is guaranteed 100% watertight and avoids the possibility of squeezing out too much Sikaflex creating a joint that some months later (after the stanchion plate has flexed a bit) starts leaking again. Sort of belt an braces approach.

An extra thought - an old trick...
If you give the bolt holes in the deck a really good 45 degree chamfer ( use a 1/2" bit thats really sharp and gently with it) then you will always have a ring of mastic where it is needed most........

Untill the deck moves and the mastic doesnt then you have invited water to pool and rot anything around it . The old tricks are not always the best IMHO .
