Hi all,

Just noticed we have a small spray of diesel coming out of number 3 fuel injector on our Volvo Penta TMD22. Engine runs fine and only noticed when I saw a small pool of diesel in the engine bilge area after a 2 or 3 hour motor (about 50ml?).

Believe I need to to remove the injector and refit it with a new washer and a guide sleeve, so the question is how difficult is this task as fairly confident doing most tasks!

I have just finished removing and refitting the injectors on a Perkins 6.354 for service. I suspect as it is blowing-by, it shouldn't be difficult to remove. Clean the hole, use copper slip around the shaft of the injector and torque up the injector to compress the new washer. The manual should give the torque setting.

If you have a spray of diesel oil coming from the area where the injector fits into the head then you may have two problems and what you propose only addresses one and leaves the more serious other problem

If there is diesel spraying from the area where the injector fits into the head then you have an injector problem. That injector needs to be serviced and the oportunity should be taken to remove all others and service them too.

If you can hear high pressure gas escaping from this area then you allso have a leaking head/injector seal. Normally if this leaks there is NO diesel carried out. Make sure you have a new copper seal and anneal it before fitting it.
