I have 2 plugs and a gland for various bits of wiring that go through the cabin roof & up the mast, and water's getting in, in spite of my best efforts to seal them, so I want to find a rainproof way of feeding the cables below. Salty John's got some clever kit, but the price is Southerly rather than Snapdragon. I've seen a bit of bent SS pipe on a friend's Dufour and it got me thinking. A bit of 22mm pipe & couple of elbows plus some sort of flange would have the same form and cost nowt as they're kicking around in my plumbing odds & sods box.

Aesthetics aside, why wouldn't it work?

I've no plans for cruising the Southern Ocean, so I'm unlikely to be getting green water anywhere near it .

Just a small point before you go removing everything, try a hose on the gland to be absolutely sure that's the problem, because I have seen water leaking into boats through the outer cables of wiring, it eventually find its way down from the top of the mast believe it or not.

It sounds like a good plan to make your own, though it may be a good idea to paint it else the salt atmosphere may eat it away. Make it big enough to pass connectors through if you can and once in place, push a bit of sponge up it to seal it. Position could be important as it won't be as strong as a commercial version and you don't want to tread on it or snag any line, cutting the cables and losing lights and VHF.
