I have a steel yacht. and for stability reasons (don't ask!) I have to remove 6 tons of lead from inside the steel keel. Anybody had experience of working with lead could give me advice on how to best melt it out or what sort of cutter would be the best to use

I would question the stability reasons first however the best bet might be to get a large drill and start boring holes in the lead until it is honeycombed enough to cut out with a chisel. But 6 tons? you could never melt it in situ.

No idea what the answer to this one is, but I wonder whether there might be a solution in removing the steel from around the lead, rather than removing the lead from the steel?

Depending on how well the lead has bonded to the steel, it may be possible to cut away part of the keel to allow access to the lead, or possibly cut one side of the keel off to drop the lead out - taking care not to drop it on anything vulnerable.

If its a fin keel, maybe cutting the keel off completely might give an answer.

Interior woodwork would probably have to be removed before attempting this, and you would need the services of a competent welder to put it back together.

Just some random thoughts. Hope they help.
