Le Navman et arrive (and I\'m just a tart)

Yep, as previously posted my new Navman 5500i has arrived. 4 days from San Fran to here and £280.

In the end, I just couldn't let myself give up £250 coz I like someone /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

No extra taxes, no VAT, brand new and boxed.

Wake up Plastimo - your business has been rumbled and you gunna get steam-rollered /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Don't blame you Dave. £250 in your pocket is better than in the swindlers! Better keep my eyes open cos I fancy a nice Raymarine jobbie to match the seatalk stuff thats already fitted to Audacious!
Suprised no import duty or VAT tho....how did you swing that?

I suspect he just didn't tell them otherwise would have been clobbered for import duty and VAT.

You are lucky, I did just that from some cousins in the states and still got clobbered.

A dealer is advertising Navman 5500 on boats and outboards for £359, you still got a good deal but they must have had a recent price adjustment (or maybe Navman saw your post and reacted quickly!).

Careful - I've (ahem - sorry, a friend of mine has) done this before and got a bill from DHL (or whoever) a few weeks after delivery for Duty+VAT+handling fee. As long as shipping invoice says that your "gift" has zero value then AFAIK you should be OK.

Re: Le Navman et arrive (and I\'m just a tart)

Just bought a watch which was delivered without any tax from Singapore, and this morning got invoice from Fedex for duty and handling charge, not too concerned as still a 25% saving on best UK price. It would appear that if you use carriers you will almost certainly be charged duty but if you use normal(slower)postal services it becomes more of a lottery.
If you go down the "gift" route I am reliably informed by a mate in C&E that the penalties for a false declaration are punitive, starting with confiscation of goods and then fines. You as the recipient of such gifts can be held responsible for false declaration. Guide Here
