Ain't this loopy. The licence fee only goes to pay for the policing of the licence - no other great benefits.
Isn't this why they've finally got rid of some of the red tape around VHF Licensing?
There is an approved mark for SSR. You have to display your number in the format SSRxxxxxx in a specified font size on both sides of the vessel. There is already a framework in place.
I guess the underlying question is what does the licence control?

Nope. You merely have to display the registered number.
"You must ensure that your vessel is marked with it's registered number ( including the prefix "SSR").This must be painted on, or fixed to the exterior of the hull, deck or superstructure where it can be readily seen"
I agree with your other point that there is already and approved mark and no need for the LDNPA " to specify an "approved mark” for craft registered on the SSR" unless they think they can charge for their own mark.
"I'm thinking of taking the boat up to Windermere this weekend."
You must be bonkers mate......it will sink the boat with this weather
/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I agree with thinking about it.....with a pint in my hand at the pub /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Oh yes. Several people who were already registered have had refunds of their Registration Fee.
I got my SSR number through in a couple of days. They send a letter with the number set out in the correct manner. I took it to the "Sign Man" in Kendal who copied it and put it on vehicle vinyl (on carrier tape) for £5.
I shall stick it on me stern as soon as the wind stops blowing and the rain stops raining. (Gusting just short of F8 at the moment)
