I see thal all the lazybags let the water rain get inside through the closed zipper, soaking thus partly the main sail and staining this in spite I lower the boom a little and to have several holes at the bottom of the bag. I´m thinking on put a light cover over the top of the bag easy to p. and remove.
Any tips ?

Thanks

Javier,

My lazybag has a heavy duty plastic zip (sewn in so fabric runs underneath it when shut)and a heavy gauze mesh on both sides where it runs along the boom so there is no staining from the zip and the water drains out all along the length. The bag itself is not particularly waterproof. More to protect from sunlight, seagulls, and dirt in the air.

Not sure a cover over a cover will help much as it is unlikely to cover it well enough to stop rain getting in underneath and you will have to strap it down well so its not ripped off by strong winds when not there. You may be better off sewing a toungue strip along under the zip so the zip is kept off the sail or replace it with a plastic one.

Regards
Neil

I had the same problem with the standard Dehler "Main Drop System" (German marketing spiel for lazybag :) ) on previous Dehler 34. I rectified it by getting a sailmaker to fit it with an external flap that covers the zip and which is held down by velcro at intervals along its length.

The underside of the bag has panels of mesh for ventilation, so no water and no mould.

So successful that I immediately did the same with current Dehler 35 - equally succesful.
