I found this gadget on the boat a few weeks ago and started using it immediately and it's proven really useful. Now, these things may be really common, if so, excuse this post. However, in the past days 2 people have asked about it after mooring up, as they had not seen something similar, so I thought it may be useful for some.

You simply put the lazy line over the two rollers and walk it to the front of the boat. There are hooks so you can secure on the rail whilst messing with the winch etc. It's so much easier than dragging the boat hook or hand over hand with gloves.

I used to use a loop of rope sheathed in hose with loop splices either end ( so you held them like a handle and walked up the boat) but in the end i just use the boat hook and walk up the front with it.

The lines are often low anyway so the hook helps reach them.

The advantage to using your hands is you can pull forward at the same time which helps keep your stern off the pontoon. Obviously gloves are essential. The only real use for a device with rollers is when there is no lazy line, just a chain (which happens around here) because lifting the chain off the sea floor is hard work and not kind on the gelcote

Ps. Here’s another
