Our lazy jacks are terrible, so replacement has become a necessity. (The lines are too thick - 10mm, and there are no blocks or eyes at the joints, so the system does not self adjust).
I am going to make the new ones up myself, but cannot find the small blocks with plastic sleeves, such as the ones in the lazy jack kits available from the chandlers.

Anyone know a source?

Cheers,

Michael.

I have only seen them as part of complete lazy-jack kits.

I use blocks that are not plastic sheathed, but chafe is not a problem because I pull the lines forward to the mast when not in use.

Frankly I reckon s/s rings would be just as effective.

How about splicing or stiching the line around a nylon thimble?

You don't need blocks or thick lines, so skinny lines whipped around nylon thimbles work fine and cost very little. That is what we had on a 300sqft fully battened main. Don't use stretchy nylon lines though.

I used small stainless blocks with plastic sheaves about 25mm Dia. with 6mm dia. rope. Never a problem with chafe as the blocks are all nice & smooth. I believe they wewre either Seasure or RWO, mainly used on dinghies for control lines.

Just made mistake of using stretchy nylon lines as I had a big reel of the stuff!
Personally hate thin lines-mine have always been thin and whilst 10 mm may be a bit thick if they are too thin they chaf away.

We have small blocks (I think ours are Barton ones) - but you can choose whatever suits you best: spliced eyes or rings...

If you do decide to go for small blocks then you can stitch small leather covers to go over them if you are really worried about chafe.

We have had our blocks on the lazyjacks for years, we don't bring them forward to the mast when we are sailing. Despite what others have said, ours don't have covers (plastic or otherwise) and have had no signs of chafe over the years either.
