Lazy-jacks twisting together.

As a concession to age and infirmity I have recently fitted lazy-jacks to my 28' bermudan-rigged sloop, using special plaited line made by Liros.

The problem is the lines twisting together below the eyes: especially the uppermost pair

An easy solution would be to fit swivels but, as nobody else seems to need them, I must be doing something wrong!

Any ideas please?

Maybe the eyes are set too high, so that the angle of the lines coming down from them is too vertical? If they spread more horizontally, they'd be less inclined to twist.

Good idea. Perhaps they are a bit steep because the roach tends not to be gathered up properly and flops over the rearmost lines.

Probably you have built in a twist in the individual lines when fitting (knotted at ends?). As each end is fixed when fitted, twist cannot work out. Try undoing one end of each to relieve the twist in the line.

If they are twisting together in the wind then maybe they are too slack as well as too high.

I have the same liros lines on my lazy jacks and have never had this problem. But they were made up and initially fitted by a good rigger.
Unfortunately mine were made up and fitted by an amateur rigger. Me!

Top of lines - are they under the spreaders (recommended)? Or on the mast itself?
2 or 3 feet above the spreaders. I have cheek blocks rivetted to the mast and the falls lead down to cleats. The idea is to let me bring the lazy - jacks forward and down when not needed.

They are just knotted at the moment. When I get the lengths right I will fit thimbles.
