First trip to Lanzarote and a visit to Pto Calero marina as suggested by a a forum member.
Plus a few observations.

A very pleasant and tranquil location wiith prices about the same as everywhere else, had proper english breakfest in one of the bars and watched amazed as somebody wandered in and started their day with a Jack Daniels/Tia Maria and Heinken chaser.
Lots of really nice Hatteras along with the odd Princess and Fairline.
A quick tour of the island starting with places familiar to all of you who have been there.
First stop Femes and the old church

The view south towards Playa Blanca.

Visit to La Geria and wine growing area, amazed that wine can be produced from waht appear to be fields of gravel ,each vine is protected by its own wall made out of volcanic lava blocks.

Heading north to Teguise and a view north from the Castillo de Sta Barbara

Our final intended destination was the fishing port of Orzola, consisting mainly of fish restaurants

and its nearbye beach

Weather was wonderful aprt from tropical downpour on last day which the locals seemed quite pleased about.
Best bits,National park at Montanas del Fuego, village of Orzola,weather/food.
Worst bits, the Gaza strip at Costa Teguise.
Languages needed. Brummie.Falls Road. Speke.
Money,you will need lots.All prices,once an incredible bargain,now scary.
The days of bargain holidays in the sun are finished for the forseeable future.Even the cheapest stuff on the menu is expensive by UK standards and believe me I am an expert on cheap restuarants.. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

nice report & pictures , marina looks smart , any idea on berthing costs , cruising grounds. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Dec 26th and that guy in the photo is wearing a tee shirt! Git!
Looks great. Though I'm sure with £1 = 1 Euro it must be a bit pricey.

Good Post Oldgit!

If you had have gone on down to Marina Rubicon in Playa Blanca when you where in Femes you could have popped in and said Hi!!!

Feel free to ask away with any questions if anyone has any,
Happy New year to All

Excellent few days away,we must have come quite close to you as we went to El Golfo for lunch, everyone we came in contact with was friendly and helpful.
Have been to most of the other islands over last couple of decades, ideal destinations esp. for winter sun, although a bit hot in summer for Mr & Mrs Oldgit.
Would defy any one to name somewhere else you can get to the sun so quickly and cheaply plus enjoy scenery as spectacular as on Tenerife, La Palma,or our favorite Valle de Grand Rey on Gomera.
Visited the house of Cesar Manrique and highly amusing to see his wind scuptures spinning slowly in the wind at various road junctions.Did read in local press that one them had blown over...twice.

Re Pic 3 - the last left hander as you come up the hill to Femes is fun isn't it?

A friend that lives on Fuerte called me last week, and said in 21 years of living on the Island, they'd never known it so cold. Apparently you couldn't buy a heater for love nor money. Still warmer than here tho.

We had good drive round most of the back roads and stuff, only real problem was trying to get the car back to hire drop off point at airport, top secret,no blimming signs anywhere, still after going round five times we finally worked it out.
It was mentioned that the day previous to our arrival the temp was around 6C,quite a talking point in all the bars apparently, still mid day sun was enough to make you hide under sun brolly.
