I am laid up this year next to the same boat as last year and chatting as you do found our sailing this year to have been very similar - 6 weeks Summer Cruise in France / CI, a couple of weeks along south coast and about 20 1-3 day short trips. We are both in solent marina. Comparing our anodes and hulls, my main anode was nearly half gone, his looked almost new, my keel was pitted with rust, his was clean as a whistle.

He told me that for the last few years when marina berthed he dangles a second anode over the side connected by ordinary electrical wire to the main hull anode and disconnects the 240v shore supply when leaving the boat. Since doing this anode wasteage has been minimal and rust spotting on keel has been zero.

he has a conventional prop with shaft anode, I have a saildrive.

Can anyone advise if there is any scientific basis to the above, thanks
