Laurent Giles Salar 40\'

I've found a Salar 40' for sale, and would like to know if anyone could give me any information about her. I'm particularly interested in her sailing capacities. Is she a pure sail boat or more of a motor sailer? What are her weak points and where should I look in particular to be sure she's in good condition? Is she subject to osmosis? Any other details you can think of would be of great help. Any information about this boat would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Laurent Giles Salar 40\'

I have always admired the appearance of the Salar,a very handsome vessel.
I understand them to be more of a motorsailer. You will probably find it has a relatively large engine for its size that would tend to indicate that.
I'm sorry I cant help with your other enquiries as unfortunately I have only viewed them from afar.(With some envy I might add).

No, Chippie, you are wrong!!

A friend of mine has one of these boats, and a few weeks ago I delivered it non stop from Plymouth to Titchmarsh.

Do not let the wheelhouse fool you - these boats sail superbly, even in light winds. I was very impressed.

Why should we expect otherwise given the pedigree of her designer?

One thing I didn't particularly like was that I found the fore cabin berths very cramped, but I think there was some variety in the fit-out of individual boats.

Overall, very desirable boats indeed!

Re: No, Chippie, you are wrong!!

Please accept my apologies. As I had stated I only viewed from afar and reflected a view that I had heard. By the way , does your friend's boat have a largish engine in her.
We agree on the quality of its pedigree and its desirability.
Cheers
