My friend just bought a antares 620.
At the moment it sits on a trailer, but has to be launched soon in Spanish water.

Inspecting the engine compartment, we can see that there is a hose going
from the shaft bearings in the hull,(these are covered with a fat rubber sleeve)
to a seacock in the bottom of the boat.

The seller told us something about "make sure there is water around the shaft bearings when you put the boat in the water, otherwise you could damage "

can somebody explain what we have to do, as we have no experience with shaft driven boats.

thanks

I think you might have a Vetus shaft seal. See the Vetus catalogue pp181-4 www.vetus.co.uk If it is and you have the water intake from a scoop in the hull, then I don't think you need to do anything. However, check with Vetus.

Hope this helps.

They use Volvo seals its the same as mine ,all you do when its in the water is burp the seal . I find with one hand just squeeze the rubber seal at the sides where the shaft comes out and the top lifts and lets the air out when water starts coming out, let go.
