Trader did respond to the bits falling off over the weekend.
There is a new saga just started on the SMEG hob.

Its all on the Ocean Deep forum.

I am getting scared to speak around here so I will leave it at that /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Paul,

That SMEG situation is just typical of the seeming 'lack of care and attention' paid by the person transporting and fitting it. Not surprised about the Silkaflex fitting. I had the same issue with a Chapparal where the ceramic hob was fitted with Silkaflex. In the end it cracked the hob glass and it never got sorted!

At least you now know what the issue is!

Cheers

James from Trader phoned me after my email to him this afternoon and agreed to fit a new hob when they come to Swansea soon. Also agreed to make those two side vents in Emsworth with a blue gel-coat so that they match the hull!!!!

That is the fastest and best response ever!!!

So it should be.

The pictures of the side vents were quite shocking. (This is a statement of fact I was genuinelly shocked by them)

Yes there was a wee smile ..... I was a bit down over the weekend, felt as if it was moving backwards. Just two fast responses on two subjects plus a promised trip to swansea very soon has restored a glimmer of hope!!

Stll no word from Tony Chappell on the commercial matters nor a response on the main fault list but i think James is probably working on the last one.

Most boat builders fit hobs using silicone or sikaflex or similar. I changed the hob in our Fairline and it was very difficult to remove becuase of this. But I think they are right to do this: the manufacturer fittings are usually poxy self tapper clip things designed for kitchens, not boats which get thrown around at sea.

In the case of Ocean Deep, I don't think Gludy is doing the right thing in asking for a new hob to be fitted "in accordance with Smeg instructions" (see his thread on the other forum) as that wouldn't be seaworthy imho.

We have a smeg hob and I think the sealant they use is a bit like blu-tack. The difference between it and silkaflex is that the smeg sealent doesn't set. Still, it's fairly sticky and I can't see why it wouldn't hold in the motions generated by a 54ft boat. Anyway, FWIW I think that Smeg hobs are crap. Ours was faulty when we got it (needed new electric gubbins), the led lenses have melted and the glass has scratched.

The stuff supplied by SMEG with the hob does hold it easily.

We have never used the SMEG oven - I think SWMBO should cook a roast dinner whilst at sea to test it. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

when's the anniversary of delivry? I think you need a survey of what is outstanding before that date. Well, it'd be a handy thing to have, anyway. Just a bloke walking around the boat, no need for a lift unless you think otherwise.
