Im on hols in the Dominican Republic. The hotel has a lateen rigged Finn available for use, and I was wondering whether anyone had any tips for getting these to sail well. I have been told not to try and gybe it, as this will result in an instant capsize. I managed to verify this yesterday :-(

It doesn`t seem to point very well. Mind you the dagger board is a plank of wood, due to the shallow reefs just off shore!

Cheers, Jon

Yeah.... I found that for the first months when i sailed a normal finn !!!
It is quite a heavy boat and requires a roll to windward as the boom goes over, with you cowering on the floor of the cockpit.
Good luck. Most mediocre finn sailors got kidney damage from not getting low enough !
