Afternoon all.

After many years as a raggie, I am now part owner of a very minor motor boat. It is hardly enough to justify posting here, but I thought I would anyway :)

We have an 18' Plymouth Pilot type harbour launch. I don't think it actually is a Plymouth Pilot, but it's certainly quite similar. The bloke who we bought it off had no idea what it was, seems like he ended up with it on the back of some kind of part exchange or debt fulfilment .

It has a VP 2003 3 cylinder thing. A bit noisy but goes ok. Initial "sea trials" show that full throttle produces just under 2,300 rpm which seems on the low side - over propped? And if so, does this matter? At full throttle it is nose up and doing its best to get past hull speed so I doubt it's going to go much faster.

thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Overpowered - really needs only 20hp, so has been overpropped. However it has been working for 30 odd years like that so just carry on. Our club workboats are Pilot 18s with 30hp engines so they can be used to move boats around the marina and carry up to 6 passengers out to the moorings. Joy to see experts move 40' boats in and out of berths using the workboat as a tug with precision!
