I chartered a small boat last week and saw more marine life than ever before !

Walking to the boat across the beach and this little chap came to say hello

Colourful fish in the harbour

Barely outside the harbour when a dolphin came to play

Thinking about swimming when we spotted what looked like inflated durex floating around, turn out to be highly toxic Bluebottle jelly fish

A little further out and pilot whales

And on the way back, floated unanchored for lunch and we think we saw a turtle swim underneath us, didnt have time to take a photo.

I didnt know what to make of this, but I was pleased I opted for the bigger engine .

5 m Rib 90 HP and I was happy on tick over (most the time) ;)

Took a sailing boat out the following day, saw whales and dolphins but couldnt get very close.

Tenerife, we struggled through snow to get to the Airport but well worth it .:)

Giss a clue ,Where are Oz,NZ ? Blue bottles stings need to be immersed in very hot water so don't get stung on your man o' war

Puerto Colon, Adeje about 4 1/2 hours flight away :)

When I compare the cost of an afternoons charter compared to owning a boat in the UK I have to say chartering is by far the best value and no washing down/clearing up !

Quality of cruising fantastic and probably costs less per hour even taking the flights into consideration.

Belting pics!
Did you need a Certificate of Compliance?;)

LOL :D

It was that thread that reminded me to post the photos, yes I needed the ICC for the 90 hp , although weve done a similar about 4 years ago in a 15hp that they let out to anyone but if the weather turns and you are 5 miles offshore with only 15hp it would be intimidating !

none of the boats are equipped, you need to take your own plotter, vhf and epirb.

The chart they supplied me with was a free local A3 leaflet advertising a jewellery shop and Mcdonalds :D

Nice pics Daka did you go out by the fish farm, ive seen a few dolphins there, and also down towards los gigantes, i like sitting and watching the fish in porto colon doesnt seem a bad little marina

Hi Ash,

Yes the fish farm is most reliable for dolphins, the 'shark fin' was about 10m from the nets, I find the best most playful dolphins are about 3 miles offshore on a transit from the fish farm to volcano, but they can be hit and miss.
If they are around they will come to you if you go 15-20knots but have no interest in you when sailing.

cheers
Pete

£50 an hour including fuel, sounds a lot but compared with owning a boat its good value, just choose the weather (nearly always sunny anyway) turn up and go
