Last night\'s seaside rescue

I enjoyed it, especially where they saved the cute seal pup (please pass the bucket!)

Pity the poor buggers that got swept through Portland Race only to be rescued by the RNLI and towed back through the race on the way home!

The silly sods in the powerboat who had run out of fuel got a suitably frosty reception from the lads.

And as for Mr Mad in his half built mobo drifting engineless in the channel for a couple of days with what appeared to be only a couple of crates of beer for supplies, well I guess I felt sorry for the bloke he seemed to be a brick or two short of a load.

Re: Last night\'s seaside rescue

Agree .... it was good to hear, in this pc world of ours, the coxswain giving the sunseeker crew a fairly good debrief on what a shambles they were. I bet there was much more positive advice given to them off camera and quite right too. I couldn't understand why their radio didn't work as a result of running out of fuel?!!? Maybe they simply didn't want to broadcast their predicament.

Re: Last night\'s seaside rescue

I also got the impression during the (highly entertaining) phone conversation with the lifeboat skipper that their electrics had gone down, hence no VHF. But then they seemed to have nav lights for the tow back which was odd to say the least!

couldnt fault the guy with the brokendown MOBO drifting for two days sustained only on lager by the looks of it.

His boat was remarkably well equipped.Everything the RNLIguy asked about he had.Unfortunately all still in boxes uninstalled piled in a heap in the cabin. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

In 2 days adrift, he could have had most of it fitted!

Now there's a thought! Get loads of work done on the boat with any disturbances!

Re: Last night\'s seaside rescue

Well that was his plan, but just like me, when he went off to the boat he found that he had forgotten to bring something vitally necessary to get the jobs done.

Re: Last night\'s seaside rescue

I dont know if this was the same one I heard 'live' over the VHF some time back, but seemed similar. I remember the CG asking people to watch our for the Sunseeker as they had had a mobile phone call from the boat, but they 'did not know how to operate the VHF'. Eventually they instructed said mobo skipper how to work it. Extract from the half of VHF call I could hear

CG: Please count from one to ten slowly (so they could get a fix)

..a couple of seconds later...

CG: OK now this time please count from 1 to 10 SLOWLY

Turned out it was some punters taking a boat out for a test drive (with dealer) and ran out of fuel...

[/ QUOTE ] surely not - that would be breaking the terms and conditions of .............. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

have to agree - on the one hand I felt a bit sorry for their predicament (the cameras etc!) on the other 'plonkers'. Overall the RNLI guy was a bit harsh as he seemed to feel it was alright to assume that everybody onboard had some working knowledge of boats and boating - quite cxommon for only 1 to be in that position; and clearly comon for none at times too!

[/ QUOTE ]I think he'd had a very long day and the usual polite and diplomatic RNLI manner just cracked a little. I'm sure he won't let it happen again.

You obviously don't watch Seaside Rescue and the Weymouth coxswain very often then... I always find his attitude rather disappointing and abrupt /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
