Larson 254 cabrio - any experience out there?

I am thinking of buying a Larson 254 cabrio as my first boat. Five years old, not silly money.
Then looking over back over the forum I came across this.

"Had a brand new Glastron which fell to bits! Then went for a Larson (same group as Glastron) and that fell to bits as well - BIG TIME! So from my exprerience stear clear of Genmar range (Glastron, Larson). "

Kind of dampened my enthusiasm!

Anybody think otherwise.
 
Hi Baffled,

Larson 254 Cabrio of that vintage is a better boat than the Glastron of that vintage. It is built to a price but is a good boat for messing around on one.

I would not stay clear but it would have to be at the right price as resale is not the easiest as say a Bayliner.

New Larsons are far better quality.......that is until GC1 got his hands on another new one /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

If you are looking for a solid first boat, I reckon this is a hell of a lot of boat for the money, with new engine and retrimmed interior it is surely a bargain. I think it could easily be run for a year and probably sold without a loss while you get the hang of things.

I'm almost tempted to keep Whitelighter in greece and have that as a UK plaything. For 13k I doubt you'd get more!!

Certainly a lot of boat for the money, I'm almost tempted myself except the cost of petrol and the availability on the Thames. It would be a handy run-about for me.

Not a bad suggestion though, but what does Baffled call sensible money, a new Bayliner gives a lot of value too, but not if your budget is £20K /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
 
Sensible - about £25,000. (or perhaps not very sensible - depends how you look at it)

Found a reasonable Bayliner 2665 too around the £23,000 mark 1997, is that a better first boat? Totally confused by it all. Rather than go around in circles Im sorely tempted to buy something tomorrow and learn the hard way. It has always worked ifor me in the past. I had an idea what I was doing and then Jez bowls me a googly and sets me thinking about older boats. Wouldnt dream of buying a ten year old car, but then again I dont suppose a ten year old boat has as many hours on the clock. Might buy a dinghy instead!

I got LakeSailored on GC1's post about his trip to Ostende as I suggested he took a Belgium courtesy flag.

Later Duncan suggested he took a Belgium courtesy flag and Pete duly thanked him for the tip, whilst pointing out he had all the neccessary flags.
 
but to be Lakesailored, someone has to ask a question, two people answer, and the questioner thanks the second responder. Not the case here, so claim for a Lakesailor refused.

It takes me days to get the blue off my fingers.

Even sadder, Brendan, but at prep school we did have to fill the inkwells.
