Hi, were in the process of buying a Phantom 40 2009 model and would like to know whats the larest rib we can sit on the bathing platform without blocking access to the transom door.

I'm looking at a Passerelle to lift it on the back that will lift 170Kgs.
Has anyone done something simillar?

Hi, I'd say an Avon 2.8m rib is just about right to walk past comfortably, anything bigger will look too out of place, the dinghy size should be related to the mother ships beam, think your about 13ft from memory so I'd say that's about right.

Yep, VP's about right I think - I had a Princess 42 which is similar beam, and I had a Quicksilver 3.1m airdeck and it completely filled the platform, you had to step round it to get off the boat.

Cheers

We had an Avon 285 with a centre console on our 2007 Phantom 40 which fitted on perfectly with good access to the transom gate. Any larger and I'd reckon you would seriously restrict access. Don't forget your outboard leg will also take up space.
Are you going with a passerelle?

I can send you a few photos of our installation if you're really interested?

Phil, some pictures would be great.

What was the spec on your rib.
I used to have a Avon Rib about 10yrs ago, but now there Zodiacs.

What’s a good replacement for an Avon these days?

Hi Phil, Some pictures would be great.
What was the spec of the rib/engine?

If you PM me your email address I'll send a couple of pics over to you. It was a Avon 285 Rover Rib with centre console and a Mariner 10/15 hp 2 stroke on the back.

Great outfit and served the purpose very well.

I'll stick them on photobucket for you if you want to put them on the thread?

Cheers
