My pal is gradually fitting out a Moody 38 for extended cruising.

He is thinking that a gantry for solar panels etc would suit his needs.

What stainless steel fabricators are there in the Portsmouth area that can be advised as good quality/value/reliability for doing this pl's?

thanks
S.

Wish you luck in this search. After two weeks in the summer during which I got:

"We no longer do made to measure only ready mades for boat builders its too expensive"

"Send us your measurements & diagram, we'll send a quote by return and start work when you send us the deposit"

The pleasant chap who came and measured up then never sent a quote or responded to my calls

And my favourite....

"Of course to make it cost effective you'll have to bring the boat to us..." This from a company based a 30 minute drive along the M27 from our marina

So we are still without anything on which to hang solar panels and likely to remain that way until we leave the UK.

Chris at CB Marine, beside Chichester Marina.

Not too far from you, and I have been to him for various custom bits, always top notch, on time and good value, a true engineer.

...I think this is the guy who did some work for my boat (he's next door to Holman Rigging) and I would add a +1 to Seajet's recommendation...

A long way from my boat! :(

I started with the arch designed for a large rib and had legs and additional framework made up to suit.

Funny, getting stuff done in less developed countries is sometimes easier.

If all else fails I know a s/steel pipework fabricator in East Sussex who has made up several bits for our boat.

thanks for the info...... Chris at Chichester has been recommended by two or more from my yard.
Thanks Scarboroughsloop for the 'heads-up' on Bob .... RS Welding at Wicormarine. Bob is top class but very busy, but he will get a quote from him too.

Also looking at Fabtech and Southern welding/polishing who are also on Wicors approved list.
