Laptop keyboard suddenly not working Windows 8.0

My wife's Samsung laptop's keyboard has suddenly "died". It is totally unresponsive and will not allow anything at all to be entered. I have looked on a Google and find that it is not uncommon. The problem is
I do not follow the explanations of what to do. Can anyone help please? Thanks.
