Unlike you lucky guys in the UK, I only get to see my boat every 6 weeks or so. Over this period in the Med the SS props are well barnacled up. There was a discussion a couple of months back on Lanoline so I experimented with putting it on the props underwater (which I can do from my bathe platform with the legs raised) The props need to be very clean to start with, which I did with that green scouring pad stuff and the lanoline slapped on a treat. After a 6week break I returned to perfect unbarnacled props. I cleaned the Lanoline off with fairy liquid and pad but next time I'll just take the boat out for a spin.
Great for your skin too but next time, latex gloves!...it's very messy!

Interested to hear that it works so well. A few weeks ago I went to SM Propellors at Gravesend and asked their advice and they said lanoline was the best treatment for props. Nice to have confirmation.

I had prop guard (same stuff basically) put on my props 3 mths ago, and it doesn't seem to have worked so well. There are barnacles starting to grow on the props and they don't seem any better or worse than the shafts which did not have the treatment. I'm sure it will work if the boat is sat in a marina, but maybe a decent cruise removes it all?

I used Propshield branded Lanolin on the outdrives back in March. I had a good look last week and they're looking pretty good, especially compared to the trim tab rams I left untreated. Also noticable was low anode wear, probably not more than ~10%, which was another claim. Looking promising so far....

I've tried it and it was useless. However some say that if you burnish it on the props, with heat, then it works well - never had the patience to do this especially as it's difficult to do with the props in the water /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I think the difference is that my boat doesn't move after application, it's just to protect the props while I'm away for significant lengths of time. The challenge is keeping the stuff on with the huge water pressure that must be on the props when they are whirling around.
