I have to post this ....
Lanolin:
I have a MOBO - VP & duo-prop ... I was recommended lanolin and smeared the crap everywhere and I mean everywhere for no other reason than I had too much and the plastic bucket it was in of course melted when I heated it with a blowtorch ;-))
The boat was lifted last week after 160hrs of motoring and 7 months afloat, the latter 2 of which it stood idle waiting to be lifted whilst in the most god-forsaken polluted marina.
After a 15 minute jet wash it looks fantastic .. the boatyard and locals were most impressed, ... whatever little growth there is has come off or can easily be removed on the hard-standing with a stiff brush.
I have heard a lot of "old-wives tales" but the lanolin treatment really works; my drive leg, props, gaiters, hyraulics, bow-thruster prop and channel, etc, were almost without a blemish.
The guy responsible for antifouling reckons I have saved a mint for next season as there is minor preparation necessary.
By the way I got my 2kg of lanolin from a chemist almost for free because when they found out what I wanted it for they gave me the remains of their stock that had a past "use by date".
Oxalic Acid:
Mixed feelings here ... great for the teak, mix with warm water, spray on a dry deck, have a beer (or three), lightly scrub off using a stiff brush (across the grain)
- Magic ... ready for oiling.
But for the gelcoat ... nah ..... not by itself .... I added some to Ceramic Oven Top Cleaner - expensive yes but a little goes one 'ell of a long way and the results are astounding; lightly wipe on, take another beer and wash off with warm water ... the surface is ready for waxing.
