I intend to sail over to Germany next year, and would like to learn some German. Has anyone any experience of using German language audio/video courses? If so, I would be very grateful to know what you thought of them, and if there are any you could recommend.

I seem to remember, from my younger days that "Schlafen mit meer, bitte" was (sometimes) a useful phrase. I'm not sure of the spelling but the sound was OK /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Re: Languages re Graham

I'll second Michel Thomas who sadly died recently.
.
The blurb for his courses says: "no pens, no paper, no homework, no memorising and no books. Just confidence - in hours. There is no such thing as a bad student, only a bad teacher."

It goes without saying that this is my kind of course. I wish he had taught me when I was taking O'level's -remember them? - I could have been a linguist. (I could also have been a millionaire if I'd had the money)..

Try your library because over the last few years public libraries have begun stocking his French, German, Italian and Spanish courses on cd/cassettes

They are definitely available from the libraries here in the fens (and at least one library in Wet Wales) so they're almost certainly available in the civilised world. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

WHSmith sells them and from memory his 2hour introductory approx costs £15, full course (7 hours ish) approx £50.

There's a website www.michelthomas.com that has further details and celebrity testimonails.

My one gripe with Thomas is that my name isn't among them. It was my chance for the world to know I have something in common with Bob Dylan and Woody Allen. Sob. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

My PC doesn't critise anyone or anything. It only does what I tell it to - normally .
